it's a good idea
try to see dexter with no subtitles at all, if u got them u read them and u pay no attention to the conversation. at least thats my case. or even better try to get the english subtitles. btw, dexters last seasson is fucking awesome¡¡¡¡ :D
Oh my godness!!!!!Jajaja....Such a good idea!!!
The problem of american series is they speak very fast and it's difficult to understand all if you don't have certain level.
We saw all Prison Break and Heroes in original version with spanish subtitles. And now I don't like to see this series in spanish....it's strange listening to them in another language...
If you have the possibility, try to connect CNN, CBS, FOX, FRANCE 24 ( English version ), and follow the news...if not...IT WILL DEPEND OF YOUR PERSEVERANCE!!!
DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right. Some films are impossible, speak very fast and I need more english level, maybe later jeje
welcome everybody!
under my point of view, the english of london it's a spanish standard while american english it's andalusian very closed. Whithout intention of offense!!!
For me is much more easy understand any top gear or any bbc production versus any american production.
my main problem is understand a conversation of talk. By whrinting understand much more and i feel much confortable.
An other problem for me it's work a phrase to comunication for anybody to ask any think and don't understand the question for fast pronuntiation or use words unknown for me.
so please tell us your tricks for understand more.
bye!!!
There are some series that is not to hard to understand them.
The game of thrones for example is not difficult (English) and also how I meet your mother (american)
To learnt colloquial language it is very good 2 broke girls, but maybe is difficult at first
I normally use this web page
http://www.seriales.us/
in some cities there is also the chance to make an arrangement with some native people and talk with them, in order that you learnt English and the other one learnt Spanish.

this is a good deal. My problem is don't meet someone to do it. In early years of student exists the magazine "speak up " already exists now?
Actually i want people in my town to go any somewere to walk and talk english. Next week i'll post an ad in the library of my town. I want learn without obligations and make it the besto posible to do.
in my opinion any languaje to learn must be funny, naturally and entertaining. I try also with german but that i find impossible. A quimera.
My only desire is to know what would would happens if my father have left the money for goes to work in Australia with 18 years. Was not fortunately or unfornately who knows. I think the love of a fathers could not see to go so far . Now i'm a father and if my son takes the same petition i will say no i guess. jajajajaa.
I now insist for learn english but she have 10 years and is not the work. I supose she need any motivation to learn. It bothers me that in the school insists both a catalan languaje and don't add english from very early. So be will....
In my opinion....The main trick, as you ask for, is not to give up and enjoy while you're practicing....there are a lot of ways to learn...try all you can!!

It depends of the place you finally chose... But in general I think that is better to rent a room because then you have the chance to talk with the people that is living with you and is also good for you improvement of language.
It`s a very good idea.

Now watching "Ballet shoes" on original version, and spanish sub. trying not to read a lot....
Keep on learning!!!!
What is it? a film, a video clip, a serial... I Don't know. what is it!!!
It's a 2007 telefilme about three adopted girls. Each one has an aim....one to be an actress, another to be a ballet dancer and the last to be a famous pilot.
One of the girls is Emma Watson (HERMION).
Now I'm watching a lot of films and documentarys about ballet. My daughter likes it very much and I'm trying to know something about it.
Next month maybe we'll take her to an academy to try....in order to know if she likes not in the living room but in a school with other boys and girls.
There's another documentary "First Position". It's about following six dancers who are preparing an international competition YOUTH AMERICAN GRAND PRIX.
Another one is BALLERINA, following how is the life of some young russian ballet dancers from the academy to the Company.
All of them in english. The last one with english sub.
Father's love....jaja
I can read us, but now I can´t write very good.
In my home I see the tv in English, but my wife does´t like, she said this is boring.
Now I can send us messages, and practise my writing.
Next to my computer, I have two books of gramar.
I need study hard.
Good night.
Well rembrandt, in the next reunion of vans not only i can leave the tweezers to start your van. We can talk to english with two beers in hand. ;D
In the next reunions organyzed by titosvans not be posible (irreconciable differences whith organizer) but i'll waiting for see you in furgofell of vendrell or any other reunion to reach this moment.
I recomend to all read or see biography or Sir Ernest Shacleton. Very interesting when we give up and believe it is impossible to reach something.
I'm still follow dexter chapters on V.O but i have to admit I have to admit that I now see breaking bad on Spanish version.
I guess you have to take a step back to take two forward.
In the final analysis the ultimately the idea is not to stop doing and continue to learn in a fun way without obligations.
'll aternating both options. Dexter don't leave any choice.
Bye

Hello, I speak english since i was a child (my mother is irish, she`s a "dublinner")
It`s nice to see that you try to improve your english using the forum, great idea!!!!
I´ll have a look sometimes and speak /type a little with you!!!
I think that the best way to improve your english skills is, for sure watching tv series or movies, but for real try and find nice easy to listen series because some of them are very hard to understand even to me or my mother ( i tried to watch "the wire" in original version and the jamaican speaking way mixed with afroamerican and redneck is really hard)
I love SOUTHPARK in the original version, I promise you that that english or the simpsons english is easier to understand but southpark...... is great!""""
you can watch southpark on the site "www.southparkstudios.com" in the original version, online and free!!!!
My english its some think like the taxi drivers speaks in El Cairo. But I can understand it. I need to refresh my english because its so poor.
Good idea.
And what about the music?
I often listen to the music while reading the CD book. In this case i understand many more.
Of course, you need an original CD (not Emule) ;D
*NOTE: it is important for me to try to write without "faltas de ortografía" to understand your comments.
Hello everybody! How it's going?
I have been living in Ireland for one year working as Au Pair for an Irish family.
I took care of two little girls and I attended an official Irish English course.
It would be a pleasure to practice with all of you :)

Hi guys! Good idea... .palmas i will try to follow you, because the best way to improve a language is to practice it... Writing, listening and talking.... writing is easier than the others because you have time to think how to express, which words to use..... But it's also important to learn.
I was thinking to propose as activity in the new kdds a English class, only to talk to each other, after the beer cata should be perfect not to be embarrased ;D
What do you think?
Hi, I think that's a good idea 'cause I've forgotten almost my english when I used to spoke every day in english.
Those times were so funny... I was young and I was able to speak about, of cours working subjects but even about family, holidays, travelling, geography, education, religion, governments, monarchies, children, women, pretty women... hahaha
And now, I think it's time to keep in touch with languages learning. I promise I'll try to report several of our stories.

I have one app of "phrasal verbs" that is my weakest point.
You also can try with this one, the name is phrasal verbs.
Hi everyone!
First of all, let me congratulate you for this idea.. I really think it's very important to increase our english knowledge.. languages open doors and borders!!
I would suggest to you some method similar to "Michel Thomas", the teacher that teaches languages just by listening and repeating, letting the language to "invade" your brain little by little.
Unfortunately, this man has only created language courses to learn other languages as french, spanish or german using english as a base, so it's not valid for our situation.
I really think that it's important to combine reading, writing, listening and talking, to be able to understand other people and be able to communicate in the real life and situations.
I will follow this post and will try to find material and methods to help us on the learning process!
Let's keep improving!
Best regards
Hi everyone.
I have not been on this forum for a few years.
I live 10km East of Belfast in Northern Ireland.
I enjoy reading the Spanish words to help me lean more Spanish.
I have used the Michel Thomas Foundation and intermediate Spanish Courses which were very good.
I went to evening college for one year to learn more Spanish, but found the Michel Thomas courses better.
When I was learning German I used to watch German Shopping Channels as the presenters use the same words again and again, I have been looking for Spanish Shopping channels to help with my Spanish.
Eveyones English is very good, I wish my Spanish was a good.
Saludos Colin

I like the idea of speaking in english since it will be useful, especially when you travel abroad to other countries. I'm up for it, and I believe I could help quite a few of you guys in the process. My mother is from Scotland so I've always been good with this language and perhaps practicing a little bit here could improve your own skills :)

I'm English but I've lived in Spain for 15 years. A good idea would be to meet up with as many people as possible to show off our camper vans, speak some English (or Spanish!), let the kids play and have a beer or two. It would need some organization but could be really good fun!

Hi!! How's it going? I think it is a great idea to practise our english. I was living in USA working as au pair and I really miss speaking in english. Also, when you come back to your country we lose a lot of influence and words because we don't use it.
Here in Santander I know two groups of people who meeting just for speaking in english in a bar. If somebody it is interesting I can share more information.
Please, keep talking :-). We can try to speak about different topics which could be interesting for all of us. We can post a question or quote that can be the clue to talk :-)
For example, what type of hobbies do you like or practise?
My real hobby now is my VAN, I spend every single minute I have on her.
By the way, I think it'a a very good way to break the ice and start speaking English, let us know about the things you like to do in your spare time!!!
Hi!!
Are you doing something special on your van? Are you travelling?
In my case I love the sea and the mountains. My first hobby is travelling but sometimes we don't have time or money for that hehe. Also, I like trekking, roller skating, cycling, and any type of sport. I'm not an expert but I like to try always new things.
I love photography and painting as a hobby too.

I have lots of hobbies but now my first aim is my precious van, I'm finishing with her already. So far I have everything I need installed (second battery, electricity outputs, water sink, gas hob, bed and furniture...) . A 130watt dual 2A solar panel is my next objective to achieve complete autonomy.
As for my other favourite activities, I' m very keen on snowboarding, I love riding on the snow slopes and listening to the sound of the melting snow under me in the cold winter. I love trekking too, and course traveling, that's why I own my "road runner" ;D

Hello to everybody from Bilbao!!
Is nice to meet a place where we can practise our english and speak about our passion, vans. I´m trying to improve my english level too, so it could be a good option to practice here writing about topics that we can consider interesting for us.
I can see this place a bit abandoned. Do you help me to give it some movement and life?
Hi Calipi! How's the weather up there?
Is your camper van ready for holidays? Clucth? Gearbox? Levels and filters?
Greetings from Málaga! .brinda

I'm evaluating one trip in Jersey island or in the UK next summer. Maybe yes.
Hi there mates!
It's nice to have this kind of topics in our forum :) Let's practise a lil'!!!
One question for you guys:
Have you ever travelled abroad with your van? Excepting countries such us Portugal, France,... that are very close to Spain.
Which was the best thing/fact you remember of that trip?
Mine was a non-stop trip more than a travel: Home -> Valdemordor with ELSERGIO (2 days) -> France (1 day + sleep) -> Germany (6h + sleep) -> Denmark (2h + sleep) -> Sweden (1.5 years) -> <ferry> -> Germany (8h) -> Holland (2 hours) -> Belgium (3 hours) -> France (8h + sleep)-> Valdemordor with ELSERGIO (1 day) -> Home

For example: what do you do for avoiding to forget your english level?

Hahaha ok I'll try my best. But I am not a native speaker of English. I make myself many mistakes...
it's ok. but probably you don't have more mistakes than me
Yes, any of us can speak "as an indian" and travel without many problems. But when I try to speak with a native... that's other level. The idea of listening the radio is good but I prefer the TV because it's easier to catch some words by the context.

That's moving. Like a pioneer of this post i'm happy for your answers and patricipation of all of us.
Let me suggest the podcasts uploaded on Spotify. Have more seccions and themes to choose. I like too much listen the podcast of tales to start and follow other more hard to listen but so much funny like the podcasts of Adam Buxton. In Those last podcast are talking of many tjemes of actually in funny and fluid english.
Other advice is ever as be possible see your favourites films, only in V.0. As you know the history and the script is very gratefull and fun listen.
Still in contact. Tell us something. Let still alive this wonderfull post. If anybody can help and wrote the fails of expression of any comment much better. Is a good grick to improve and still alive this post (giving ideas)

Ever all of us triying express and talk like a native people. Generally they aprecciate the effort to try talk english and listen with more atention to try to understand your message and intentions. My trick ever is tell something with a less words possible and if i don't know the word i make a pause and describe the significate of this word and after continue the conversation normally. The speed to talk help too to choose and think the words to use and give better expression about your purpose

(...) It is a good trick to improve our English and to keep this post alive.
Note all sentences start with a subject. The subject is always present. Unless it is an imperative sentence, for example: sit down!!!
Obviously we can't correct everything but we can start helping each other out!!!
thanks for your advice. Please consider one think. My english is remembered when i i'm student of EGB. I don't have money to go to an academy and improve with the help of one teacher. i'm practice more less talking about something with other people and only try to improve my level with post like this or watching films or news in english, almost ever in standard american, more sweet to listen for me. Maybe is not the better way to improve but can be better to don't forget at all my very rust and basic level.
Let me suggest an other aplications to learn. One of my favourites is
VOA learning English available in android, ignore if also is available for iphone. I like so too much the videos uploaded called english in a minute. In that videos explain particular phrases and examples to understand the significate. Also have articles of press readed witha native and even you can choose the speed of speech size of letter etc. Other famous website is
OroroTV. here you can see an biggest catralog of series or movies in VO with or without subtitles. Very affordable to understand because listen and read all the conversation.
Use children's videos is good form to start but as soon as posible is better use ther type of videos because in my opinion results very low and boring system.
Regards
tnttgn, don't forget https://www.duolingo.com/ they've even an app for smart phones.
My case is similar, I've studied English until C.O.U. (1996) The thing is if you have a nice teacher, you learn, but if you have a potato-teacher... You would learn a shit. I was lucky and I had some good teachers on my way, but I had also some really bad ones.
Then I like movies and TV shows, so many years ago I started to watch them in English with Spanish subtitles. It's a very good training, once you start to find out that translations are a shit you realize that you understand a lot!!!
The jump were on 2007, I came to Stockholm to visit my cousin and I had to speak in English with his girlfriend and his house mate, I discovered then that I was almost fluent speaking :D Then living in Stockholm during 2011-12 was really nice to improve my English. Then back in Spain I had a job on a British company and now work on a Swiss one, so I speak in English almost every day.
I know that I'm making a lot of mistakes when I speak, but also native English speakers do that, so don't worry and continue. Nobody's perfect.
I forgot to say that due to my occupation (IT support, web developer) I have to read a lot of documentation on English as well, so that helped a lot.

Another mini lesson. You can't write both a verb and its auxiliar in past sense. "Did" makes the past of the verb that follows, so this one is written "say" ...

I LOVE the auxiliary verbs. Because you don't have to learn how to use the verb in each tense. It is always the same. And in a question it tells you inmediately if we are talking about the past, the present or the future.

Here is so quiet.
Hi!!
I had a really busy week. On Thursday i went to Almeria and got my rotatory bases installed. Yesterday i spent the day looking for a vetus planus escape hatch and a pair of rails where to anchor my furniture to. Today i finally found the hatch in the shop of my local nautical club. However i still haven't found the rails.
And that's me. How about you guys?
Greetings from Almeria!

Well, the "best" part is when IT boss calls and says: -"Gustavo, next week you've to be here." -"No $boss, I've tickets for a concert and I can't go" -"But we need you here for (not-so-urgent-reason)!"
Anyway they're paying flight, the apartment is from the company owner, all additional expenses (taxi, bus, food, beer) are paid later... I should not complain .meparto

About Switzerland, it's a beautiful country and the people is charming (at least in Luzern/Kriens as far as I know). I will not move there (I was asked to), a burger with chips for CHF 30.- it's too much!

yes, it is a beautiful country, i agree. A bit expensive too. But wages are really high. People are a bit 'bla' though. Not e'body, I am generalizing..

so tasted and sweet but really hard. if you don't take care dinking, you'll be in big troubles morning after. you know what i mean?? .bebemucho
well. i'm gonna bring some shakes .bebe1 to this bottles at night ;D ;D
I
edit: something tells me that i'd make a mistake anywhere
Yes, but we understand you.
I've here "pintaillo" that's a mix between moscatel and white wine. Too dangerous as well. I've Moscatel in a wooden barrel. The white wine in a brick, cheap one. .meparto and a glass bottle to perform the mix
White wine on Tetrabrik !!! Looks very dangerous. Keep carefull!!
.meparto
.meparto .meparto it looks like it is the dangerous version of 'calimocho'. I don't think i would be able to talk properly after drinking that. .bebemucho .bici
The mix is 3/4 moscatel, so not so dangerous.
Do you know that white wine has the same density than brake fluid? So in case of emergency you can refill the brake circuit with white wine.
[Walter White seal of approval]
Breaking bad Whalter White ? I like that guy. Thanks for the advice! Although I have no idea where i should put the break fluid .panico .meparto
In a T3? Behind the steering wheel, under the cockpit cover ;D
Oki, i'll check it some time next week. But i'd probably drink the wine before it gets even close to the stearwheel .meparto .meparto
T3? .nono i think furgoberta's campervan is a T5
edit: right, t3 is yours... .suda
I don't like wine, unless you mix the red one with lemon or cola... Or both, or in a Sangria .meparto

Then in the engine hull...
Ooooh i like a good wine. They are a bit more expensive maybe three four euro more. Regular red wine that's not really good makes my nose go red, and upsets my stomach.
I also like cazalla. I have discovered this recently when I moved to Valencia in January.

Rookie, beginner, novice...
I know...... i asked to the 'hilo' especially made to answer questions about the forum. But in my case it was mere curiosity than the need for upgrade. It would be cool if they made some kind of game out of it. .meparto .meparto.
Or una how do you call porra???
oh dear! i am starting to mix languages!!!
Once you get perfection mixing Spanish and English you can go freely to Gibraltar .meparto .meparto
.meparto .meparto .meparto
Yeah!!!! Althiogh it's not a place that stirs my curiosity.... apes robbing my food? I'm like joey... nobody touches my food!!!
In gibraltar sometimes can listen a perfect english or the same men talk a perfect andalú .meparto
That's weird!!! .meparto .meparto Total mix of cultures. I wouldn't mind going to South Africa. I understand people there speak Enhlish and Dutch. And they tell me the country is beautiful.

I remember when I was there with the high school. At the border, a Spanish agent came into the bus and requested to show our passports. Then in the "British" side another agent came and did the same, but with a closed Andalusian accent .meparto .meparto
My Pedro has the same accent. It is really funny! For the first 8 months i had no clue of what he was saying haahaha and he had to talk to me in 'guiri'... you know, exagerating the american accent.

this country is really nice to me and it's really near from my home. about 200kms more or less.

Woah, sounds really nice O: I've heard that Portugal is beautiful, it is?
And how was travel with your camper between countries? I mean, frontiers, the road, ppl attitude, if you were able to sleep on it or you were obligated to go to campings xD
The question is to stay invisible. People in the north are really nice although some get easily annoyed, especially when it comes to dumping one's garbage or making too much noise.
My best advise is to make a good but flexible feeding or meal plan (eating out abroad is prohibitive) and try to follow your intuition whenever possible.
well. portugal is another world. nice people, really cheap at all... no problem to sleep anywhere.
france it's nice too... but more expensive. you must avoid tolls as you can. i had no problems with frontiers and the french people... well, they are so specials, you know what i mean?
to sleep at france you can stay on parkings by supermarket and if you have oen McDonalds near, you can connetc to his wi-fi but only if they are opened. there is a lot of furgoperfectos across france and really nice places to go and enjoy. totally recomended!!! and take your bicycle!!
What's up guys? it's cold out there uh! Anybody knows where i can buy a good warm jacket?
.meparto .meparto
I've a really nice parka imported from Canada, suitable for -50ºC. I wore once at 0ºC in Stockholm and I started to sweat like a pork so I had to remove it! But at -25ºC walking under the snow was really warm :)
guuuys!! this thread was totally burried! how was your Summer?
yep, this is a cemetery, full of graves.
My summer passed working in front of the computer, so I've a super mood .lengua2
And now still working but on the sofa, because I had a recent surgery, so I should not sit or stand for long until the wound is healed.
Wow! Gu78 have had the best summer ever! .meparto .meparto
Don't worry, the summer hasn't ended yet. Next weekend to the beach with my van! .palmas
Anyway in the south it's better to travel in winter ;D
Wow, im sorry for you gu78!
Hopefully you have a quick recovery... you should ask for a pay raise!
