Hi all, Ron here. Only just joined up. I am serious about driving my Camper from Bulgaria ( I'm South African) and settling in Spain ( my wife is British). My question relates to whehter it worth it to bring in an older type ducato diesel vehicle OR simply buy something newer once I've settled in. The nice thing is my Camper is paid for , ( its only worth about Euro 5000) . Can anyone out there offer advice, thoughts, ideas, cost implications etc .....   many thanks in anticipation. Ron   . I'd upload a Pic but not sure how yet..

Hey Ron! With 5k you're not going to buy anything here... Maybe you can get a van, but definitely not a camper...

Since Bulgaria is in the European Union, I think bringing yours here deserves a try. The paperwork shouldn't be too complex or expensive.

Good luck on that!

Hi Ron!

I don't know anything about import taxes but, as Betitou said, it shouldn't be necessary to put a new Spanish plate because Bulgaria is in UE. Actually, I think that you only need to make a new insurance here. Last year I went to Romania and Bulgaria in holidays with my van and I hadn't any kind of complications in the borders.

Anyway, maybe an expert in laws could give you better advice.

Hi guys, I'm in the same process. I'm about to move to Spain from UK.

First of all, even being European, if becomes Spanish resident you have to pay all your taxes in Spain so, after 6 months living in Spain it's mandatory for you register and inssure you vehicle in Spain.

When I moved to UK my vehicle was wearing Spanish reg plates for more than 6 months with no problems, but it's not legal and you could be unprotected in the event of any issue.

Said that, I don'g know yet what are the associated costs of registering your own car (we are not importing, we are bringing our car).

I guess what we need is to pass the ITV (Spanish MOT) and pay the registry taxes. I'm not sure yet whether we need any previous technical certification, but if I were you I would find your vehicle's COC just in case.

If you go ahead before than me please share any information you get.

I think around 3000 pelotes is when you buy from Germany or wherever in Europe, but because in this case we're not importing but moving.our own vehicles I guess we have not to pay the "transmisiones" tax.

Hi JoannaVitto, I'm not pretty sure (yet). What I know is that it's necessary get an engineer sign, who I guess got a garage. It's something similar to a other countries where some certified professional sign your vehicle fullfil the local law.

I'd  suggest you pay a visit to an ITV facilities bringing your vehicle and they will (should) inform you about what you need to pass the ITV inspection.

For example in UK before ask DVLA for your V5 you need to get an approval from VOSA... It should be similar.

BTW, where're you from?
